Child Labor Remediation Programs
Child labor is a complicated and extensive matter across global supply chains in various industries. Child labor remediation is not easy to achieve if it lacks a holistic multi-stakeholder approach, lacks of understanding on country's social economic context, lacks of suitable skills and practical experience of working with children and businesses. The question of how to deal with instances of child labor in the industrial context is not an easy one to be answered. However, in each case, the interests of the child need to come first without disrupting suppliers' business operations.
SRops' senior consultant as independent consultant was contracted by leading UK based consulting firm to conduct number of child remediation and child labor preventative programs in several individual suppliers - producing for number of EU based Retailers - found employing child labor or underage workers. The tasks and responsibilities of the consultant included but not limited to the followings: develop child labor training materials and presentations, conduct training for the suppliers, identify the root causes, provide support to deal with individual circumstance, provide supports tackling some of the most common difficulties, provide orientation consultations, work with related stakeholders to channel the child workers back into reputable education program, monitor progress over time, and detailed reporting. The child labor remediation and preventative programs was conducted following operational procedures and practical guided approach.
